South of Alexander City on Alabama Highway 128 you’ll find one of the largest state-owned campgrounds in the United States, Wind Creek State Park. However, that distinction is not the only thing that makes Wind Creek special. Wind Creek State Park is the public's access to Lake Martin.

Wind Creek’s 1,445 scenic acres hug the shoreline of beautiful Lake Martin making the park an angler’s paradise. Crappie, bluegill and striped bass are just a few of the species the lake has to offer. Several fishing tournaments are scheduled at the park each year.

The park’s 586 campsites are spread over 320 acres and offer ample opportunities to enjoy a variety of outdoor activities. Campsites include 157 waterfront sites ,39  premium sites, which have 16 ft wide concrete pads.  Site amenities include; water, sewer, 50 amps electrical, water front access, and TV service.  Three of the newly renovated sites are handicap accessible. In addition, 16 sites are available for horse camping. Bathhouse and playground facilities are conveniently located throughout the park. 
For guests who prefer to stay in a cabin, the park has seven camping cabins to choose from, one of which is handicap accessible. Each air conditioned cabin has a kitchenette and a private bathroom. Guests will need to bring their own bed linens, towels, cooking and eating utensils. 
Beginning May 22, 2015 we opened 39 premium waterfront sites. Amenities include 16' wide x 50' plus long, level concrete pads. Also included are up to 50 amp electrical service, sewer connection, TV connection, water connection, picnic table,firepits and grills.
We have started accepting a premium type ( not specific campsite ) reservation. Premium reservations are not available online but may be made by phone M-F 8-4 or in person any day. Effective 11/1/2015 the following conditions must be met to guarantee you will have one of our premium waterfront sites available when you arrive.

  • Those choosing not to reserve a premium type campsite have the option to reserve a base site as always. Site selection, including a Premium if available, will be first come first serve upon arrival to rent and occupy your campsite.

Winding over rolling ridges, through tall pines and down to the lake’s shoreline, the park has 28.5 miles of hiking trails.  All park trails offer a stunning view of wildflowers, blooming dogwoods, and provide various wildlife viewing opportunities. All trails are for hiking, cycling, and horse riding.
Wind Creek is also a stop on Alabama’s Piedmont Plateau Birding Trail All trails offer a variety of waterfowl, raptors and songbirds that are common in the park. Bald eagle and osprey can be seen throughout the year.
