Cheaha Mountain Store
Our guests are Social Distancing- please keep up the great efforts! Cheaha State Park, is open with some restrictions. Our priority is to make the park as safe as possible for our guests and staff. The following steps have been made to follow COVID-19 safety protocol:
-OPEN: Everything in the park is open except for group lodge (roof project), group camp (repairs/cleanup) and Lake Playground (awaiting mulch for safety). Vista Cliffside Restaurant is open Thursday - Monday from noon to 8 pm with limited pizza/burgers to go menu. We appreciate your support.
-The Mountain Store will allow 10 guests inside at a time and has 6’ markings on floor to help maintain Social Distancing. Guests are required to wear a mask or face covering to enter all Cheaha facilities.
-We are sorry but due to limited interior space, park museums will be closed due to COVID-19 protocol. Stay safe and well.
-Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) will be closing Cheaha Road (between Lake Cheaha and Lower Improved Campground) for the day on the morning of Tuesday July 21, 2020 if weather permits their work. When they close that road, camp guests will need to use a detour road. It is NOT a longer route, but the detour road is 2 miles of US Forest Service 14 foot wide dirt/gravel road.
The Cheaha mountain store welcomes you as you enter the park. The front desk processes all reservations, check-ins, sells souvenirs, snacks, and cold drinks. If you have any question the staff at the Mountain Store will be happy to answer them. Across the street is a coin-operated laundry. The store is stocked with food and supply items necessary for camping and picnicking. Gift cards are also available, which are redeemable in all 21 Alabama State Park facilities.
You don't have to be a kid to enjoy the Pinhoti Mineral and Gem Mining Co. Adults can enjoy finding gems and treasures from around the world as well! You can purchase gem and fossil bags at the Country Store from $6.00-$25.00. See what wonderful treasures you might uncover! Each bag purchased includes a brochure to help you identify the gems and fossils you find. Sample gems you can find are Moss Agate from Asia, Emerald Calcite from Mexico, Green Jade from Africa, and so many more!
Our gem mine is located behind the Native American Artifacts Museum and across the street from the Country Store. For guided mine and geology programs, contact Park Naturalist at Mandy.Pearson@dcnr.alabama.gov and watch our Events Page for special programs.
